Ember 1.6.3: Journaling Suggestions

• Mentions read better: people, worlds and tags line up with your writing, keep the same space on both sides, never split across two lines, and grow with the editor's text size. • Fixes: the third photo on a tall card no longer runs off the edge, and the tip about mentions no longer shows to people who already use them. iPhone and iPad • Journaling Suggestions: tap the lightbulb next to photo, mic and song to pick a moment from your day. Its photos and videos, its place and the people in it go into your entry, and anyone already in Ember comes in as a mention. Ember sees only the moment you pick. • On a new page, Write about a recent moment starts the entry from one, dated to when it happened. • Workouts, steps, moods and what you listened to come in as one plain line you can keep or delete. • Apple's journaling reminders open Ember on the moment they suggest. Settings, under Reminder, shows whether they're on. • On iPad, Journaling Suggestions arrive with iPadOS 26.

Ember 1.6: print your journal as a book

• Print your journal as a book. A year, all of it, or any two dates, laid out for a print shop or your own printer: a title page, contents, your photos, and an index of the people in it. Long journals come out in volumes, and a book can be about one world, one person or one tag. Free for everyone: Settings, Print as a Book (on Mac, in the File menu). • Wall: hang a picture behind your graph, move it until it sits right, and choose how clearly names stand out over it. It stays on that device. • Send as a card, from someone's page: up to three photos of your moments together, with your own title, line and greeting. • People show their face wherever you pick or name them, so two people with the same name are easy to tell apart. • From December 15, a look back at your year at the top of the Feed: the people you wrote about, who was new, your stories, month by month, and where it happened. • In December, a little snow when you open Ember, and a Christmas look for cards and PDFs.

Ember 1.5: Find People, simpler

• Find People in Journal is simpler. Type a name (the ones you write most are right there), say who it is, someone you have or someone new, then check the entries about them and choose Done. • A writing reminder, if you want one. Pick a moment in your day, such as after dinner or before bed, and the days, and Ember asks who was part of it. Off unless you turn it on, in Settings. • Reminders about your people start when you ask for them: Ember asks to send notifications when you choose Tending for someone, or the first time someone starts to fade. • Importing from Day One or Apple Journal shows how to export first, then where everything went, and ends in Find People. • A new Ember starts with one person: their name, a moment with them, and their page, then a short tour of where things are. iPhone and iPad • The + menu says New entry. • On iPad, the sidebar reads Life, People, then Look back, a day on the Calendar opens toward the roomier side, and the location field stays above the keyboard. Mac • The sidebar reads Life, People, then Look back, with Feed, Calendar and Map under Look back. • Templates are on a blank entry's date line.

Ember 1.4: Calendar

• Calendar: your life by day. Each day shows its photo, what you wrote and the stories that began on it, with birthdays, the days you met and anniversaries named on their day. Open a day to read it or to write about it. Upcoming lists the dates of the next twelve months. On iPhone it is in Browse; on iPad and Mac, in the sidebar under Life. • Custom fields can be dates. Make a field such as "Wedding" a date and it comes round on the Calendar every year, with how many years it has been. For a day that happened once, such as a move, turn off "Comes round every year". Dates from Contacts come in as dates. • Filter a person's interactions by tag. The tag picker lists the tags you use most. • Presence starts unrated when you log an interaction, so only the ratings you give are saved. • Memory cards and A book of us now include the follow-ups you wrote on an interaction.

Ember 1.3: search the words in your photos

• Search finds the words in your photos. Type a word from a letter, a card, a ticket or a menu, and the entry or story with that photo comes up. It opens at the photo with the words marked. Ember reads your photos on your device, and photos you added before updating are read in the background. • Entries with lots of photos open faster and scroll more smoothly. • On a person's page, tap or click someone under Connections to go to their page. To change the dates of a connection or end it, touch and hold it (Control-click on Mac).

Ember 1.2: templates

• Templates. Turn any entry into a template, then start new entries from it. The entry stays in your journal, templates live under the Bin, and a blank entry offers them right on the date line. • Tag your interactions with words of your own. Each person's page counts the tags you've used with them. • The Graph holds still. Past 300 people, each world folds the rest into a bubble you can open. • The Map shows its pins as soon as it opens, and you can drag the spinning globe. iPhone and iPad • The tag picker fits its list, and on iPhone it opens as a full sheet. • iPad: the sidebar floats instead of docking, and in portrait the journal selector sits above your entries. • Fixes, including an iPad layout that could cut off the edge of every screen. Mac • In a narrow or tall window, the journal selector sits above your entries. • Many fixes and refinements.

Ember 1.1: a new welcome

• A new welcome. Start with a few starter notes, pick up your library from iCloud, or bring your journals from Day One, Apple Journal or an Ember backup. • Search shows why each result matched, and looks through your whole archive. • Person pages: jump to any month on a time rail, see everything you share in Together, and add your own fields. • The Map gathers photos into small stacks, and the globe turns. • Widgets: Reach Out follows each world's nudge setting. • Imports from Day One, Apple Journal and Contacts tell you what they skipped. • Sync: deletes you make offline now reach iCloud, and Ember asks before it syncs with a different Apple ID. • Many fixes, including a crash when saving some stories as PDF and a crash on the Map. iPhone and iPad • iPhone Duo: open it up and Ember opens with it. Journal and People sit side by side, and the entry you're writing stays open when you fold it. • A New Entry circle widget.
